Apple II Forever

January 29, 2007
Another great video at YouTube.com from a truly unique personality, Alfred DiBlasi.
Alfred's Intro:
"While the Macintosh was still in "The First 100 Days" of launch mode, a new product in the Apple II family was announced -- the Apple IIc. Remember folks, the Apple II family 'paid the party' and created a positive revenue stream and profits while the Macintosh was getting established. Without the Apple IIe and Apple IIc sales, the Macintosh could not have happened. So, enjoy this segment from the April 1984 Apple IIc rollout conference at the Moscone Center in California."

Please visit www.woz.org for more information on the incredible Steve Wozniak. Also, make sure you check out his new book, "iWoz".
And don't forget to watch past the end credits. More to come! - Alfred

Before iPhone: Apple's Earlier Forays Into Cell Phones

January 24, 2007
Yet another great article by Tom Hormby, this time at The iPod Observer!
"Apple's experiences with cellular networks did not begin with the development of the iPhone. Apple licensed a proprietary WAN standard from France Telecom called BiBop for use in its early PowerBooks. A few years later, in 1995, the company licensed the Newton design to Motorola, which released the Motorola Marco, outfitted with a cellular modem for email and faxes. Unfortunately, both products fell flat. Maybe iPhone will come out differently."

What's In a Name? Apple Corp vs. Apple Computer

January 22, 2007
Another great new article by Tom Hormby at Low End Mac.
"The Beatles have sued Apple three times in the past thirty years and have won twice. Ultimately, Apple had to pay almost $20 million for the right to use the Apple name to sell computers (even if they have music editing capabilities). A suit filed in 2004 granted Apple the right to use the Apple name, even though it was now active in the music industry, agreeing with Apple's arguement that only a "moron in a hurry" would mistake the Beatles for Apple."

Steve Wozniak Talking About the Creation of the Apple II

January 15, 2007
From the YouTube.com intro:
"I recently attended a book event with Mr. Steve "Woz" Wozniak. Mr. Wozniak is credited with contributing greatly to the personal computer revolution of the 1970s. Wozniak co-founded Apple Computer with Steve Jobs in 1976 and created the Apple I and Apple II computers in the mid-1970s. The Apple II became one of the best selling computer of the 1970s and early 1980s, and became a very popular personal computer. In this video, Mr. Wozniak talks about how he created the Apple II Computer."

Go, Apple, Go

January 10, 2007
Today we return to the magical Wayback Machine at Archive.org to retrieve another lost nugget. This 1997 article by John Rizzo regarding the PowerBook 3400c is subtitled, "The world's fastest notebook is a PowerBook", and is originally from Creative Mac.
It begins:
"Everyone from billionaire Larry Ellison to the pretzel vendor in Union Square seems to have an opinion on how Apple should boost its fortunes. My two cents: Go back to basics.
Build a hot machine that everyone wants. Someone at Apple apparently agrees, because there is now such a machine--the PowerBook 3400c."

Apple's Top Five Business Decisions

January 04, 2007
A new article by the talented Tom Hormby at The Mac Observer. It begins:
"Apple has managed to survive and even thrive despite some very bad leaders, products and financial results over the years. The company has survived because of a few stellar products, alliances and business decisions. In my opinion, these are the top five that allowed Apple to survive the past thirty years. Without them, Apple would not exist as we know the company today."
