Today we return to the magical Wayback Machine at Archive.org to retrieve another lost nugget. This 1997 article by John Rizzo, discussing Apple's decision to buy NeXT, is originally from Creative Mac.
It begins:
"On a slow news day just before Christmas, Apple made its most important move since cofounder Steve Jobs dumped the Lisa to create the Mac.
Apple bought Job's NeXT Software Incorporated with the aim of using the NeXTstep operating system as the foundation for Mac OS 8. Back in 1993, Apple planned to ship Mac OS 8 (then called Copland) at roughly the same time Windows 95 was to debut. Copland was to be an intermediate step to Gershwin, Apple's answer to Windows NT. But as 1996 drew to a close with Copland years late and Gershwin nowhere in sight, Apple decided to kill Copland and announced it would use a third-party operating system as the core of Mac OS 8. Users would get a Mac interface, the ability to run Mac software, and a faster and more stable system."

Another interesting 1981 tale from the inside at Folklore.org by Andy Hertzfeld. This time, a shakeup in Apple II engineering frees him up to work on the Macintosh. It begins:
"I could tell there was something wrong from the moment I stepped into the building, on the morning of Wednesday, February 25th, 1981. Instead of the normal office buzz, there was a muted sadness hanging in the air. People were standing around, huddled in small groups. I ran into Donn Denman, who had a cubicle near mine, and asked him what was going on."

Apple Adventure and Arcade Action

Another gem from Atarimagazines.com. Originally appearing in the May, 1983 issue of Creative Computing, this evaluation by Owen W. Linzmayer examines some new Apple II games. It begins:
"One of the greatest fringe benefits of being a staff writer at Creative Computing is that I get to see most of the new games as they are released. Even though it is my job to review programs, I also spend a great deal of my free time playing my favorite games. Of the new games I 'had to' play this month, Aztec, Jawbreaker, and Spy's Demise are the ones that keep me at my Apple long after hours."

PowerMac G4 Cube as Art
March 03, 2008
Today we present the latest video from our friend, the always entertaining Alfred. The design of the Cube already borders on being art, but in this video Alfred definitely take it over the border!
The intro:
"In this video, I take the shell of my G4 Cube to the Lumonics Studio in Ft. Lauderdale to experiment with some LEDs to see how it would look as an illuminated art piece!
The team at Lumonics are planning a customized, LED base to illuminate the cube. This coming Wednesday, I will be joining them to review their ideas and hopefully give them a 'go' on the project."
Also, if you like Alfred's content, please visit his YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/adiblasi and subscribe to his channel. The subscriptions keep his motivation to posting these great videos for us!
