A new article by Andy Greenberg at Forbes.com.
It Begins:
"Long ago, before the iPhone, before the iPod, before even the second coming of Steve Jobs, Apple was not the infallible juggernaut of innovation it's known as today. The fanboys may not believe that there was a time when Apple could fail. But Allan Yogasingam has proof."

When Apple Failed
October 30, 2008Give Your Apple II a New Year's Treat
October 29, 2008
From deep inside the atarimagazines.com archives, we present this article by Gregg Keizer which originally appeared in Compute!, Issue 126, February 1991. It begins:
"Apple II's used to sail off the dealer's shelves during the Christmas season. TVe commercials touted the saving graces of the Apple IIe, the IIc, and latr, the IIGS. Rebates motivated people to stop and shot for an Apple.
All that's history now. Apple's plans for the II line area a rearguard holding action at best. The company can only offer the ideologically correct phrases that promise continued support without any hard evidence that the line has a long-term future outside the classroom."

Apple Cube 450Mhz, 640mbRAM
From the description:
"I'm selling my old Apple Cube, which has been in storage for a couple of years. It works great. It's running OSX 10.3.5 just fine.
Here's what's included:
Apple Cube 450 Mhz
640mb ram
80gb Seagate hard drive (virtually silent)
DVD player (stock, doesn't record -- just plays)
Apple Black keyboard
Apple Black mouse (this mouse doesn't seem to run through the keyboard USB, but runs fine through a hub
Original stock speakers as pictured
Working power supply
Airport wireless networking card (original card, already installed ready to go)
Apple OSX 10.3.5 installed on hard drive, but no discs included.
USB hub (original USB 1.0 speed)
No monitor is included with this computer. In many ways, that's the beauty of it -- you don't have to contend with a built in monitor like an iMac.
You will also notice some scratches on the acrylic clear case in one of the photos. The scratches are circled in red."

October 16, 2008
So says The Woz in a new interview posted at Techradar.com. It begins:
"Steve Wozniak – or 'Woz' as he is affectionately known – is the cofounder of Apple and creator of the Apple II, one of the most successful, visible and earliest personal computers ever made. He's still technically an employee at Apple, but he's now best known for supporting and championing new technologies, either directly or through Acquicor, the company he co-founded with Apple alumni Gil Amelio and Ellen Hancock".

Gloom and Doom for the Newton MessagePad?
October 08, 2008
This is a semi-hidden page at the Walletware.com site on the "Future" of the MessagePad. It begins:
"Considering the recent announcements regarding the death of the Newton OS, we're concerned with the attitude of the 'Chicken Littles' assuming that Apple may be doing a 'bad' thing, assuming that the MessagePad itself has been killed.
Having been involved with the Newton industry as Newton software publishers and developers since 1993, we (WalletWare, Inc. and Balcones Software) feel compelled to attempt to shed some positive light on what Apple may be attempting to do in the handheld and palm PC industry. And if our guesses are correct, it's not all bad, folks!!"
