Things Are Better Than Ever
Once again we tap that valuable Apple history resource, Folklore.org for a tale of days gone by. This time Andy Hertzfeld recounts the final days of his leave of absence from Apple. It begins:
"Toward the end of August 1984, my six month leave of absence (see Leave Of Absence) was drawing to a close, and I still hadn't decided whether I would return to Apple. I continued to feel very close to the company, so it wouldn't be easy for me to turn in my badge, but I didn't see a reasonable alternative."

This 1989 ACM article, a transcript of a speech by John Sculley, Apple's then Chairman of the Board, investigates the future of computing and in particular the Apple vision of the future - The Knowledge Navigator.
The introduction:
"Apple's Chairman of the Board discusses the future of three core technologies - hypermedia, simulation and artificial intelligence - and the role each will play in education. The following speech was presented to an audience of teachers almost two years ago. Its message, however, is as timely and inspirational today as we prepare for a new era."

The Seed of Apple's Innovation
A 2004 BusinessWeek Online interview with Steve Jobs in the "Voices of the Innovators" series. It begins:
"In an era when most technology outfits have tightened their belts to adapt to a slower-growing market, one company stands out for forging ahead on innovation: Apple Computer (AAPL). Others have slashed R&D and focused on incremental advances to existing product lines. Not Apple."
